Last Friday, in the Odintsovo urban district, the first in the Moscow Region site was opened at a correctional center for prisoners sentenced to forced labor on the basis of the property complex of the LLC "Start" company.

    The ceremony was attended by the Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Moscow Region, Major General of the Internal Service Alexander Vetrov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Moscow Region - Head of the Main Directorate of Regional Security of the Moscow Region Roman Karataev, Director of the LLC "Start" company Vladimir Vorobyov, Deputy Prosecutor of the Moscow Region Oleg Cherskov , Commissioner for Human Rights in the Moscow Region Yekaterina Semyonova, member of the Council under the Governor of the Moscow Region for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, Chairman of the Public Monitoring Commission of the Moscow Region Sergey Leonov and Head of the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs Natalia Chudakova.

    In a special institution designed for 50 people, prisoners sentenced to forced labor will live in hostels located on the territory of the organization under the constant supervision of employees of the penal system. At the same time, they will be able to independently purchase clothes, food, and get to work - the light industry enterprises LLC "Start", which is engaged in sewing clothes and other products.

   The convicts will receive a salary, from which, by a court decision, deductions will be made to the state's income.

   “The practice of replacing imprisonment with forced labor has many advantages both for the convicts themselves and for business. The former have the opportunity to serve their sentences in their region, near their homes and relatives. Entrepreneurs also benefit in this situation: they get the opportunity to fill the staff deficit, - said the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs in the Moscow Region Vladimir Golovnev.

In the Moscow Region, there are already positive examples of interaction between penitentiary institutions and business. And, thanks to the assistance of the Government of the Moscow Region and the Office of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Moscow Region, in the near future, a similar section, functioning as a correctional center, will open on the territory of the Kolomensky urban district".

    Currently, more than 700 residents of the Moscow Region who are serving sentences in correctional institutions in the region have the right to apply to the court to replace the unserved part of the sentence with forced labor. This deadline has come for more than 6 thousand residents of the Moscow Region who are serving sentences in other constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
